Once an unbeaten champion, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez faced the sting of not only his first professional loss but also a tarnished reputation after failing to make weight for his scheduled bout with Gabe Rosado in March. That cancellation led to widespread disappointment among boxing fans.
However, Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) is back, seeking redemption against Joe Smith, Jr. (28-4, 22 KOs). The former Light Heavyweight World Champion and Ramirez are scheduled to lock horns in a 12-round main event this Saturday night, presented by Golden Boy Promotions and broadcasted live on DAZN. The stage? The glamorous Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas.
While speaking about the ill-fated Rosado fight, Ramirez confessed, “It’s been a tough pill to swallow. But I’m focused on how I bounce back. This bout with Smith isn’t just another fight for me. It’s a chance to prove my dedication to my fans and to the sport.”
Both fighters are entering the cruiserweight division for this bout, even though they’ll be fighting at 190-pounds. With the stakes this high, the victor emerges as a strong contender in the cruiserweight division, while the defeated may see a dip in their standing.
