Canelo Alvarez shut down any notions of squaring off against Terence Crawford, suggesting it’s not on his radar currently. Jermell Charlo on the other hand, despite the loss, seems keen to trade blows with Bud Crawford.
Canelo showcased his boxing finesse, knocking down Charlo in the seventh and securing his win with the judges’ unanimous nod. Boosting his impressive record to 60-2-2, it’s crystal clear why he’s the undisputed super-middleweight champ.
In the post-fight presser, Alvarez tossed aside any pressing talks about fighting Crawford, stating, “The Crawford fight? Maybe later. I just won. Can I enjoy it a little?” His tone lightened up as he expressed : “This is the real version of Canelo speaking. It’s been a while since I felt this good. I’m truly back.”
Reflecting on his victory over Charlo, Alvarez confidently remarked, “There’s no beating this version of Canelo.” He further added, “Charlo is a respectable fighter, understands the game… Our strategy was simple – go to the body. Imagine, three months of altitude training, far from family. That’s dedication.” As for not sealing the deal with a knockout, Alvarez chuckled, “That’s why we have 12 rounds, right? If I can’t land the knockout punch, I’ve got time to prove I’m superior.”
While Alvarez might be playing it cool about Crawford, Charlo seems raring to go. Even though he stepped up two weight divisions for the Alvarez fight, Charlo is ready to rumble with Crawford in his own division, asserting, “Bring Crawford on. I’m game.”
However, Crawford, never one to mince words, threw shade at Charlo’s performance. He sarcastically tweeted, “Dear Jermell Charlo, you went out sad. Didn’t even try to win, all you did was try to survive. You should be ashamed of yourself. Playing it safe, huh? And here I thought you were a lion, more like a kitten now.”
He added more salt to the wound and said, “Big ups to Canelo. You schooled the ‘lion’ tonight. As for Charlo? Crawford: “Ok y’all I’m over he’s no longer on my hit list. He went out there and laid down and let Canelo spank him like he was his daddy with no type of resistance.”
