These two have been mixing it up in the ring as sparring partners long before the bright lights of the PBC Pay-Per-View event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Fundora reminisced about their countless rounds together, noting, “We used to spar all the time… But that’s ancient history. We’ve both evolved.”
Fundora, hailing from Coachella, California, alongside his father and coach, Freddy, has set up camp in the scenic yet rugged Tehachapi mountains. Despite swapping palm trees for pine trees (and the occasional bear), it’s business as usual for Team Fundora. “It’s the same drill, just a different backdrop,” Fundora quipped, emphasizing the tight-knit, no-nonsense approach of their training regime.
Shaking off his first pro career defeat to Brian Mendoza last April, Fundora is all about looking forward, not backward. “We went hunting the day after the fight. Dad’s advice? Don’t dwell on it. This sport’s a rollercoaster,” he shared. True to form, Fundora is bouncing back with the same fiery spirit, promising an even more polished version of the “Towering Inferno” fans have rallied behind.
As the fight date looms, Fundora isn’t just eyeing the championship belt; he’s chasing family glory, hot on the heels of his sister Gabriela’s recent championship triumph. “It’s my shot to prove our family’s fighting mettle and Dad’s coaching chops,” Fundora stated, clearly eager to level up to his sister’s achievements.
And what about the future? Fundora’s already plotting a collision course with WBO champ Tim Tszyu, provided they both emerge victorious on March 30. “Tszyu’s the man to beat, and I’m stepping up. Let’s make it happen,” Fundora declared, ready for whatever comes next.
