After a whirlwind amateur stint that bagged him a pair of national crowns, Julian Delgado is all set to dip his gloves into the pro scene, cheered on by the familiar faces of his hometown crowd.

This Saturday, April 13, marks Delgado’s leap into the pro waters, squaring off against a yet-unnamed challenger in a four-rounder that’s stirring up the local scene at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. His first professional tango, along with a slew of other bouts, will light up screens exclusively on ESPN+.

As the night unfolds, the ESPN broadcast will dish out a heavyweight double-header in ten-round clashes, with Jared Anderson testing his mettle against Belgium’s Ryad Merhy in a step-up battle.

The evening’s second spotlight will shine on Efe Ajagba and Guido Vianello, two powerhouses from the 2016 Olympics, set to throw down in a riveting co-main event.

Kicking things off, Robson Conceição and Jose Guardado will duke it out in an eight-round starter, promising to fan the flames for an electrifying night.

Tickets are up for grabs starting Tuesday, March 5, with the digital queue opening at 10 a.m. CST on Ticketmaster.com, courtesy of Top Rank’s promotional muscle.

Delgado’s boxing tale is a recent one, kicking off in 2021, but he’s wasted no time making waves, clinching National and State titles left and right over an almost 40-fight amateur spree. In 2023, at just 22, he carved a niche for himself in Texas boxing lore by snagging a National Golden Gloves title, a feat no Corpus Christi native has achieved in 40 years, mirroring the success of the legendary Jesse Benavides. Now, less than a year on, Delgado is lacing up for his professional bow.

Delgado shared, “This moment has been on my radar, something I’ve been grinding towards relentlessly for the past couple of years. I’m buzzing to light up the ring in front of my nearest and dearest, proving that my future’s as bright as ever. It’s my shot to show off the sweat and grind that’s gotten me here.”
