At a laid-back press conference on Tuesday afternoon in Managua’s Japanese Park Auditorium, All Star Boxing’s top dog, Felix “Tuto” Zabala Jr, dropped some exciting news. He announced the historic signing of WBO Latino Female Flyweight champion Eveling “La Colocha” Ortega from Acoyapa, Nicaragua. For the first time in a whopping 60 years, All Star Boxing is welcoming a female fighter into its fold, shattering an age-old barrier.

So, who’s Eveling Ortega? She’s the boxer who won the title of the first-ever WBO Latina champion in Nicaragua. Back on October 27th, she showed off her boxing chops by outmaneuvering Silvia Duran in a six-round thriller, grabbing the vacant belt in a bout that had fans glued to their screens on ESPN Knockout and ESPN+. The venue? The buzzing Alexis Arguello Arena.

Ortega’s been on fire lately, especially after teaming up with Marcello Sanchez of Pinolero Boxing. This dynamic duo turned her career around, leading to a string of five impressive wins. And now, with All Star Boxing in her corner, things are looking even brighter.

Let’s hear what the bigwigs have to say:

Felix “Tuto” Zabala Jr, President of All Star Boxing, Inc., couldn’t hide his excitement: “We’re over the moon to welcome the recently crowned Latina champion Colocha Ortega to our team. It’s a new era, and Ortega’s work ethic is something to behold. We’re all aboard for a thrilling ride towards a world title shot in 2024.”

Eveling Ortega, WBO Flyweight Latina Champion, is equally thrilled: “I’m on cloud nine, being the first female fighter in this company is a huge honor. When I won my belt, I just couldn’t hold back the tears. Being a champion is everything to me. Now, it’s time for the next big leap in my career.”

Mark your calendars! Ortega will be back in the ring on December 1st in Panama, gearing up for a fantastic 2024 back home. She’s set for a six-round scuffle against a yet-to-be-named opponent in Zabala’s “PanamaFightNightIV” series in Panama City. Catch it live next Friday, December 1st, on ESPN+ at 9 PM EDT.
