Last evening, Keyshawn Davis transformed the squared circle into his own private exhibition, leaving everyone in no uncertainty of his skills. The 24-year-old Olympic silver winner notched an important victory, dispatching the former two-division world champ Jose Pedraza with a sixth-round TKO that had the spectators erupting in cheers.
For the first couple of rounds, Davis played the role of the keen observer, sizing up Pedraza. But as the third round rolled in, he cranked up the heat, unleashing a barrage of lead lefts that set the stage for a relentless assault in the rounds to follow. Pedraza hung on by a thread, dodging the worst of it until the fifth. Davis, ever the strategist, shifted gears and danced around the edges, only to dive back into the fray in the sixth with a flurry of combos that left Pedraza with no outs, compelling referee Tom Taylor to call time on the spectacle.
Post-fight, Davis was all fire and brimstone, “All through camp, I’ve been shouting from the rooftops that I’m the king of the 135-pounders. Everyone’s been on my case, ‘You need the KO; you gotta floor ’em.’ I just said, ‘Sit back and watch the master at work.’ And wouldn’t you know it? That KO came knocking.”
Not one to rest on his laurels, Davis is already eyeing his next conquest. “Teofimo’s been running his mouth non-stop. I say it’s high time we take this up a notch to 140 and see what he’s really made of. What do you say, Teofimo? Ready to tango? Or we can always dance with {Emanuel} Navarrete post his WBO victory. Now, that’d be a fight worth writing home about.”
