Potential Replacement Opponents for Anthony Joshua Announced Following Dillian Whyte’s Withdrawal
After the unexpected cancellation of the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte, the boxing scene is in a world of speculation. Filip Hrgovic and Demsey McKean have emerged as the joint 2/1 favourites to fill Whyte’s shoes against Johua according to William Hill.
The bout, initially scheduled for the 12th of August, had to be called off following an anti-doping test on Dillian Whyte, which showed “adverse analytical findings.”
Next in the odds lineup are Derek Chisora and Gerald Washington, both at 3/1. Deontay Wilder stands at 4/1. Longer shots include a trilogy with Andy Ruiz at 6/1 and a marquee matchup with Tyson Fury at 12/1.
Lee Phelps, spokesperson for William Hill, shared his take on the situation, stating, “British boxing aficionados are understandably disappointed by the sudden turn of events. Yet, AJ might still grace the O2 Arena next week.”
“Given that both Hrgovic and McKean were on the same card as Joshua vs. Whyte, it positions them as potential replacements. Consequently, we’ve slated their odds at 2/1,” Phelps added. Derek Chisora and Gerald Washington, also on the initial card, come in at 3/1 odds.
