This grand spectacle is set to unfold at Legends Casino, Toppenish, Washington, on the chilly evening of January 25, 2024. Roy Jones Jr. Boxing, the promotional mastermind behind this extravaganza, in collaboration with DAZN, is ensuring that this event streams into your living rooms, starting at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT.
In the spotlight of the main event, Yakima’s undefeated golden boy, Andrew Murphy, will strut his stuff in an eight-rounder, zealously defending his National Boxing Association (NBA) Super Middleweight Americas title. The co-main event features Mandeep Jangra, a silver gladiator from the Commonwealth and Asian Games, who’s all set to battle for the NBA’s vacant Intercontinental Super Featherweight title in a ten-round fiesta.
Andrew Murphy, the local hero (7-0, 5 KOs), born and bred in Yakima, is no stranger to Legends Casino. This will be his third dance in the ring there, facing off against Devontae McDonald (5-3, 1 KO), Wenatchee’s own boxing beacon.
Murphy, speaking about Jones as a mentor, says, “He’s the OG, the wizard of the ring. He’s like a walking encyclopedia of boxing, with a trick for every possible scenario. His teachings are not just about mimicking his style, but also about carving out the best version of ourselves. Come Thursday, my game plan is simple – dominate, by any means necessary.”
Mandeep Jangra (6-0, 4 KOs), hailing from Kharian, India, boasts a stellar amateur career. Now, under Jones’ watchful eye, he’s gearing up for his fourth battle and his first-ever title fight. His opponent? Gerardo Esqivel (5-3-1, 1 KO), Tacoma’s finest.
Jangra shares his excitement, “I’ve been with Roy for almost a year, and he’s turned my amateur skills into a professional powerhouse. I’ve revamped my style, throwing combos that even surprise me. My last fight, I unleashed a thirteen-punch combo – never thought I’d see the day!”
