Matchroom Boxing Signs Subriel Matias

Subriel Matias has inked a deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and Fresh Productions, throwing his lot in with the big dogs.

Matias, with a tally of 20 wins and just one loss, all wins by knockout, grabbed the IBF Super-Lightweight crown last February. He made Jeremias Ponce throw in the towel after a five-round beating in Minnesota and kept his title against Shohjahon Ergashev in November, with Ergashev also giving up after six rounds in Las Vegas, keeping Matias’ streak of not letting fights go the distance alive.

The bloke from Puerto Rico is gearing up for a summer fight on his home turf, where he first stepped into the ring back in December 2015. Having fought there 11 times already, coming back as a World champ would be a bit of a do, and Matias is chuffed to bits to join forces with Matchroom and DAZN for some top-notch fights.

Matias is buzzing, “I’m over the moon with the deal with Matchroom. I’m itching to prove to DAZN, Matchroom, the big shots, and the world that they’ve bet on the right horse – I’m the top dog at 140 pounds. Showing off in front of my home crowd is the cherry on top. I’m all about giving the crowd their money’s worth with full-throttle fights until someone can’t take it anymore. Running away isn’t my style, and it’s not going to start now. I’m ready to steamroll over anyone they line up for me.

“Big thanks to Matchroom and Fresh Productions for this chance. I’m stoked to be part of the Matchroom squad and won’t let you down. To my folks in Puerto Rico, I’ll be back soon for a belter of a boxing night.”

Juan Orengo from Fresh Productions is just as pumped, “After sifting through loads of offers, for which we’re dead grateful, we’ve landed on Matchroom as the best shot for Subriel to hit the big time. They get the boxing scene in Puerto Rico and reckon we can pull off some massive events there, just like we do.

“Puerto Rico’s got boxing in its blood, and we’re here to bring that buzz back, making it the go-to spot for boxing once again. Expect some fireworks. With Matchroom and DAZN, we’re set for a bright future with Subriel.”

Eddie Hearn’s chuffed to welcome Matias aboard, “Subriel’s a thrill a minute in the ring, and with the World title at 140lbs, he’s in line for some blockbuster fights.

“Matchroom and DAZN see big potential in Puerto Rico, and with Subriel joining the ranks alongside Edgar Berlanga and Yankiel Rivera, we’re planning some epic events there, kicking off with Subriel’s triumphant return as World champ this summer.”
