Macias steps in to face Callum Simpson at BOXXER

Callum Simpson is set to face a challenging opponent, Jose De Jesus Macias, at London’s iconic York Hall next weekend. This change comes after Germaine Brown had to withdraw due to an injury. Fans can catch this  fight during the BOXXER: Breakthrough event on Saturday, September 30th, broadcast LIVE on Sky Sports.

Earlier in June, Macias went head-to-head with Erik Bazinyan, who’s currently positioned as the world’s #3 super-middleweight by the WBC and #2 by the WBA. In this fight, Macias nearly ended Bazinyan’s unbeaten streak and interfered with his potential high-stakes fight against Canelo Alvarez.

With a record of (28-12, 14 KO’s), Macias is known for upsetting contenders and making it a rough night for hometown fighters. One such instance was his notable 2021 TKO victory over Steve Butler, a recent WBO world title challenger, in Canada. Now, for the first time, Macias aims to showcase his skills in the UK and hopes to disrupt Simpson’s (12-0, 9 KO’s) momentum.

For the UK’s Simpson, who joined BOXXER earlier this year and is viewed as one of the top hidden gems in British boxing, this is a golden opportunity. A victory over Macias, a fighter who has battled with some of the division’s elite, would firmly place Simpson on the global boxing map.

Ben Shalom, BOXXER’s CEO, stated, “Callum Simpson was already gearing up for a challenging fight on September 30th, but now he’s up against an even fiercer competitor. Jose de Jesus Macias, with his history of causing upsets, gave a tough time to top-ranked super-middleweight Erik Bazinyan. This fight is going to be a significant test for Simpson, and it’s commendable that he’s taken on such a formidable opponent, especially with the limited preparation time.”

This anticipated Simpson vs. Macias fight is being presented by BOXXER in collaboration with bet365, branded as the event’s bet365 Wildcard contest.

The BOXXER: Breakthrough event at York Hall, London, scheduled for September 30, will be available exclusively for viewers in the UK and Ireland via Sky Sports. Additionally, the event is sponsored by esteemed partners including bet365, Everlast, WOW HYDRATE, Village Hotels, and Fastline Steel Services.
