GB Boxing, a name synonymous with the sport’s excellence in Great Britain, has stepped into a new ring. They’ve proudly become an Associate Member of World Boxing, the young international federation with a mission close to the heart of many: keeping boxing pulsing at the core of the Olympic Movement.

This November, there’s a date circled in red on many boxing enthusiasts’ calendars: World Boxing’s inaugural Congress. As participants, GB Boxing representatives are gearing up, hoping to put their hat in the ring for election, eyeing key roles within this budding federation.

It’s crucial to mention, though, that GB Boxing won’t have a vote at this Congress. Their expertise lies in managing Great Britain’s cream of the crop: the elite World Class Programme. They’re the architects behind the teams we cheer for at grand stages, like the Olympics.

In a wave of announcements, World Boxing has rolled out the welcome mat for several other significant players: USA Boxing, New Zealand Boxing, Boxing Australia, England Boxing, and the Dutch Boxing Federation. Earning a membership wasn’t a walk in the park. These federations had to ace a rigorous process, ticking boxes that ensured they stood tall in areas like transparent elections, strict adherence to anti-doping policies, and more.

Jason Glover, the man at the helm of GB Boxing’s Board of Directors, couldn’t contain his pride. He spoke of GB Boxing’s heartening journey, emphasizing a vision of a brighter future for boxing. Glover radiates optimism, looking forward to a future where boxers’ interests lead the way, and where sporting spirit shines the brightest.

Reflecting on GB Boxing’s storied past, it’s been a thrilling ride since its inception in 2008. They’ve been the wind beneath the wings of male and female boxers from Great Britain, celebrating the glory of 14 medals across three Olympic showdowns.

World Boxing, although a new entrant since its 2023 launch, holds an age-old dream: ensuring that the rhythmic dance of jabs, hooks, and uppercuts finds its spotlight in the Olympic movement, now and in the decades to come.

For those whose interest is piqued, a deeper dive into World Boxing’s aspirations awaits on their official website.
