Dmitriy Salita, a figure known both inside the ring as a fighter and outside as a promoter, is set to be enshrined in the Jewish Sports Heritage Association’s Class of 2024. This acknowledgment comes from an organization dedicated to highlighting the impactful contributions of Jewish individuals in the sporting arena. Alongside Salita, the association will also celebrate other notable figures like Ross Greenburg, the ex-President of HBO Sports, during their sixth annual celebration at Temple Israel in Lawrence, N.Y., on a sunny Sunday morning, April 7.

Expressing his gratitude, Salita reflected on his journey from a young immigrant honing his skills at Starret City Boxing Club to achieving his version of the American Dream through the discipline of boxing. He is thrilled to have his efforts and accomplishments recognized years down the line and is eager for the upcoming induction event.

Alan Freedman, the mind behind the Jewish Sports Heritage Association, praised Salita for challenging stereotypes and serving as a beacon against antisemitism in today’s climate. Salita’s saga began with a glittering amateur stint, claiming titles such as the U.S. U-19 Nationals and the Golden Gloves, and being honored with the Sugar Ray Robinson award for his standout performance. His steadfast commitment even led to a schedule change in the U.S. U-19 tournament finals to accommodate his observance of the Sabbath, a fight he triumphantly won.

Transitioning to a professional career in 2001, Salita quickly made a name for himself with a record boasting 35 wins, including 18 by knockout, only facing defeat twice. His tenure in the ring was marked by multiple title wins, including the coveted WBA World Super Lightweight Championship, before he hung up his gloves in 2013, a year that also saw him inducted into the New York Boxing Hall of Fame.

In his new role as a promoter, Salita has propelled Salita Promotions to the forefront of boxing, spotlighting champions and reviving women’s boxing with the help of icons like Claressa Shields. His latest venture, the “Big Time Boxing USA” series, has become a must-watch spectacle on DAZN, showcasing the finest talent from Michigan. The next event in this series is all set to electrify fans at the Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit, promising live action that will be streamed for viewers on DAZN on March 28.
