Angel “El Gato” Luna professional featherweight boxer returns to the ring October 7, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona. Luna will take-on the 19th in the World among featherweights, 4 stars, Carlos Castro. Fight to be held at Celebrity Theater, by Iron Boy Promotion. Luna, who is no stranger to top contenders, has taken on Tevin farmer, Marco Castro. Michael Angeletti, Christopher Diaz, & Jose Lopez to name a few. Luna has lined himself up for the perfect opportunity in a fight with Castro. A win of this caliber could put him back in contender status.
Castro who has taken on Ceasar Juarez, and Oscar Escandon and has left statements. Castro is looking for his second consecutive win after suffering two major losses. Castro would suffer his first loss of his career to former two-division champ Luis Nery on February 5, 2022. Then in July 2022, he was stopped in six rounds by Brandon Figueroa. Luna is looking for his second consecutive win as well.
Luna last fought on July 22 in Highland Indiana. Luna won by a first-round KO. In March of 2023 Luna fought Jose Luis Castillo Jr. in the Main Event for Triller Fight Club. Luna has maintained active averaging six fights a year the last two years. All fights have been on major cards. Luna, who was already scheduled to fight November 11 in Highland Indiana, decided to change course and take the fight with Castro.
Luna stated “ it’s not every day you get asked to fight the number 19 in the world in your division. So when I received a call, I knew that it was an opportunity that I had to take”. Luna fought for the WBC UNBC in June of 2021 and came up short to Adam Ochoa. Castro obtained the WBC Continental Americas featherweight in August 2021. On paper this fight may not match up but when you look at Luna’s pedigree you can understand why he belongs among the contenders. Luna comes from the same fighting stable as Javier Fortuna, Jeison Rosario, and Felix Valera. Luna is sure to bring some action to the card as he steps up to show he is still one of the best coming out of the Dominican Republic.
