Ontario’s top fist-throwing outfit is rolling out Canadian Sara Haghighat-Joo (3-0, not too shabby with rankings at WBA #8, IBF #8) to throw down with the current WBA World Champ Maria Guadalupe Bautista (23-11-2, with a modest 6 KOs) for the WBA Light Flyweight crown at the Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto.
Tyler Buxton, the big cheese at United Promotions, can barely contain himself. “We’re over the moon to drag a WBA World Championship fight to Toronto,” he blabbed. “It’s been on our wishlist to haul world title scraps to Toronto, and this is just the start.
“Sara’s in a league of her own, which is why she’s in the mix for a world title so early in the game — a nod to her graft, skill, and amateur background.”
Haghighat-Joo’s out to etch her name in the history books, aiming to snag the title of the quickest Canadian lass to nab a major World Championship in her fourth go in the pro ring.
“Couldn’t ask for a better setup, scrapping on my own patch,” Haghighat-Joo chirped, who hones her skills at Etobicoke’s West End Athletic Club. “Big cheers to United for pulling this off; this is the kickoff to a mad 12- to 18-month run for me, and my supporters are gagging for this massive evening!”
Haghighat-Joo kicked off her pro stint in 2022, leaving a mark with an eight-rounder, and has already put a former World Title Challenger in her rearview mirror.
“Some might reckon it’s a bit premature or quick off the mark for me, but we’ve been charging ahead full tilt, and the timing’s spot on,” said Haghighat-Joo, who’s bagged Canadian and Irish national amateur titles and swept all 18 rounds on every scorecard in 2023. “Couldn’t have inked a deal with a better promoter in Canada, buzzing for where this road’s heading, starting April 27th at Casino Resort Toronto.”
The main support act sees IBO Americas Welterweight King Josh Wagner (17-0, 9 KO) squaring off with Argentine hopeful Geronimo Vazquez (17-1, 5 KO).
April 27th’s also packing a punch with a top-notch undercard, featuring Jamaican middleweight Kemahl Russell (16-1, 14 KO), Korean up-and-comer Gisu Lee (10-4, 3 KO), Hamilton’s own undefeated Bradley Wilcox (11-0, 6 KO), and towering southpaw Joshua Frazer (9-0, 6 KO).
