This Saturday, December 16, The Armory in Minneapolis is about to explode with boxing action, headlined by former world champ Alberto Puello and the unbeaten Ector Madera. They’re throwing down in an eight-round super lightweight showdown that’s the main event of the SHOWTIME BOXING COUNTDOWN, part of a Premier Boxing Champions event.

Catch all the action live on SHOWTIME SPORTS YouTube channel and SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook page. The card’s also packing middleweight action with Kyrone Davis and Cruse Stewart in an eight-rounder, plus light heavyweight Lawrence King taking on Alex Theran in a six-round scrap. The whole shebang will be hosted by MORNING KOMBAT’s very own Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell.

This is just the appetizer for the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast, featuring undefeated WBA Super Middleweight Champ David Morrell Jr. taking on knockout artist Sena Agbeko. It all kicks off at 9 p.m. ET.

Tickets are up for grabs at The Armory’s website and through Ticketmaster, brought to you by TGB Promotions and Warriors Boxing.

Puello (21-0, 10 KOs) is back in the ring for the first time since last August, when he snagged the WBA Super Lightweight World Championship. Hailing from the Dominican Republic and now training in Vegas, Puello made some noise back in July 2019, taking down Jonathan Alonso. He’s returning to The Armory, where he previously outclassed Veshawn Owens. He’s up against California’s own Madera (11-0, 6 KOs), stepping up to challenge Puello.

Davis (17-3-1, 6 KOs), 29, is gunning for his second win of 2023, fresh off dominating Cristian Fabian Rios. He’s faced tough opponents like Anthony Dirrell and David Benavidez. Trained by Stephen “Breadman” Edwards in Philly, Davis is set to clash with Minnesota’s Stewart (8-2, 6 KOs), aiming for a comeback.

King (13-1, 11 KOs), Canelo Alvarez’s sparring buddy, is riding a nine-fight winning streak, having KO’d eight of his last nine opponents. King’s latest victory was over Marco Reyes in June. He’s facing Colombia’s Theran (23-12, 15 KOs), a veteran who’s faced a bunch of contenders.

Also on the undercard, junior middleweight Joey Spencer faces Argentina’s Marcelo Bzowski, while Michael Angeletti (9-0, 7 KOs) goes against Angel Contreras (13-7-2, 7 KOs) in a super bantamweight bout. Super middleweights Shawn McCalman (14-0, 7 KOs) and Cristian Olivas (22-9, 19 KOs) will duke it out, and super lightweight Jose Chollet (2-0, 2 KOs) meets Lyle McFarlane (2-2, 1 KO).

Rounding out the card, Mayweather Promotions’ prospects John Easter and Charles Harris Jr. will be in action, facing Javier Frazier and Marlin Sims, respectively.
