In a spirit of friendly rivalry, Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert are adding some extra excitement to the upcoming Undisputed Welterweight World Championship showdown. The battle in the ring sees local heroes, Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. from Dallas and Terence “Bud” Crawford from Omaha, squaring off. The event is set to happen this Saturday, July 29, with audiences tuning in on SHOWTIME PPV from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With a twinkle in his Twitter eye, Mayor Johnson shot a challenge towards Omaha, “How about we raise the stakes of the #SpenceCrawford showdown with a friendly wager?” If Crawford emerges as the undisputed welterweight titleholder, Mayor Johnson pledged a Texas-styled title belt from Wild Bill’s Western Store, a Dallas classic. He’s all set for the fight, buzzing about the thrill of watching “two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.”

Ready to play ball, Mayor Stothert responded affirmatively to the wager, promising to send over an assorted box of Omaha Steaks’ prime cuts if Spence takes home the victory. She’s proud of their hometown champ, Crawford, and his commitment to Omaha’s community via his investment in the B & B Sports Academy.

Mayor Johnson has been rooting for Team Spence for a long time, thanks to his friendship with Spence’s trainer, Derrick James. They both share a connection with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas and work together in support of the organization. The dynamic duo recently hosted a movie night for the kids, watching Creed III and even arranging a meet and greet with Spence Jr. and Anthony Joshua.

Wild Bill’s Western Store is all in for the friendly wager, making it their second time supporting a city-to-city bet.

As for the big night itself, the stage is set with tickets available through AXS.com. The live event, promoted by Man Down Promotions, TBC Promotions, and TGB Promotions, will kick off the pay-per-view at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Alongside the main event, Future Hall of Famer Nonito Donaire will tussle with Alexandro Santiago for the vacant WBC Bantamweight World Championship. Meanwhile, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz will face the unbeaten Giovanni Cabrera in a 12-round WBC and WBA Lightweight Title Eliminator. Yoenis Tellez, guided by the renowned trainer Ronnie Shields, will start the telecast against Spanish contender Sergio Garcia in a 10-round super welterweight match. The excitement is palpable, and the stakes are high — both in and out of the ring!
