Ronny Rios Fighting For Final Chapter In Boxing Career On April 24

Ronny Rios, once retired, is stepping back into the ring with renewed vigor and a clear goal: to claim a world title that has long eluded him. He makes his return on ProBox TV’s Wednesday Night Fights, set for April 24th against Nicholas Polanco in a featherweight bout over ten rounds, held at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida.

Now fighting in the featherweight division, Rios is under the guidance of a fresh coaching team, including his old ally, Jesus Gutierrez, and Frank Barajas. Having known Gutierrez for over two decades, Rios approaches each fight with the intensity and dedication of a man who knows it could be his last.

After almost two years away from competitive fighting, the itch to box proved too strong to resist for Rios. The desire reignited after he shed twenty pounds that had crept on during his hiatus, a period during which he also reflected on his past pursuits and future ambitions.

“This fight is not just another bout; it’s potentially career-defining,” Rios explained. His aim is not merely to participate but to excel and capture the championship belt that has been his ambition since his amateur days. This upcoming fight against the seasoned Polanco marks the beginning of what Rios hopes will be a triumphant return to top form.

In addition to refining his skills, Rios is placing a stronger emphasis on defense—a facet of his game he admits needing work, especially given that three of his four professional losses were by knockout. His last defeat was a tough twelfth-round stoppage by Murodjon Akhmadaliev on June 6, 2022.

Reflecting on his career and life, Rios shared, “For me, happiness isn’t found in fame or wealth; it’s in peace. Winning isn’t about the accolades for me—it’s about achieving a personal goal and finding satisfaction in my accomplishments.”
