Queensberry’s Gwynne to Challenge for European Title in Big December Boxing Night

Gavin Gwynne, the freshest face at Queensberry, is set to challenge for the vacant European lightweight title. Fans are marking their calendars for this bout, which will take place at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday, December 2. This fight is one of the headline acts supporting the highly anticipated middleweight clash between Hamzah Sheeraz and Liam Williams, which will be broadcasted live on TNT Sports.

Gwynne, boasting a record of 16 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, is ready to step into the ring against the unbeaten Italian fighter, Emiliano Marsili. Marsili, with an impressive undefeated record over 43 fights, stands as a formidable opponent for Gwynne. This fight comes shortly after Gwynne’s agreement on a multi-bout promotional contract with boxing promoter Frank Warren and Queensberry.

From his professional debut in 2016 to earning the title of Welsh champion a year later, the 33-year-old has demonstrated remarkable growth. His noteworthy matches include a victory over Luke Willis in April 2022, securing the Lonsdale belt. He successfully defended it twice against fellow countryman Craig Woodruff, with their first encounter ending in a draw.

However, Marsili, a 47-year-old southpaw, is not to be underestimated. He first clinched the European title in 2013 and successfully defended it four times. He reclaimed this title in 2022 and has been undefeated ever since. Marsili’s past achievements also include a win over Derry Mathews in 2012 for the IBO world lightweight title.

But there’s more in store for boxing enthusiasts:

  • Sam Noakes, with an enviable 11-win knockout streak, will defend his WBC International Silver title.
  • Pierce O’Leary, Noakes’ teammate from iBox Gym, is set to defend his WBC International super lightweight championship.
  • Raven Chapman, with an undefeated record, will defend her WBC International featherweight title for the third time.
  • Cruiserweight Oronzo Birardi, super lightweight Sonny Liston Ali, and featherweight Umar Khan are also scheduled to entertain fans with their bouts.

Frank Warren, the promoter, expressed his enthusiasm, “This is another spectacular card for our boxing fans, building on our previous ‘Magnificent 7’ event in Manchester. We’re thrilled to introduce Gavin Gwynne to the Queensberry family and offer him a well-deserved European title shot against a seasoned pro like Marsili. The iBox Gym group will be in full swing with Noakes, O’Leary, and Chapman, all gearing up for significant matches next year.”
