Jaime Clampitt puts the Featherweight Divisions on Notice

Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt is itching for another fight. The ex-world champion from two divisions has her sights set on the women’s featherweight and super-featherweight divisions, hunting for a prominent opponent or maybe even another title shot.

“Man, I’ve got this fire to jump back in that ring,” shares Clampitt (25-6-2, 7 KOs), boasting two victories this year, with the latest being an exciting 8-round unanimous verdict against the tough Josefina Vega from Ecuador in August. “Been training non-stop, sparring a bunch. I’m aiming for another fight by year-end, perhaps late November, early December, or January at the latest.”

After an 8-year hiatus, this Hall of Famer made her comeback in 2021 and sports a respectable record of 3-1-1 since. She feels all set and pumped for another run at the title. And guess what? She’s got a list.

“I caught Skye Nicolson on the mic a while back, hinting she wants to test herself against an experienced boxer this year,” Clampitt recalls. “I mean, Skye’s crafty, but I’m pretty sure we’d give fans a spectacle.”

Nicolson, a rising star from Down Under, recently secured the WBC interim World Featherweight title in Tijuana, after besting Sabrina Perez. A showdown between Nicolson and Clampitt would be a tantalizing contest, pitting a hungry rookie against a seasoned two-weight world champ.

Nicolson might have youth on her side, but Clampitt’s got tricks up her gloves. “Skye’s got the looks, the talent. But what I’ve learned in my time? Priceless! I see my age as my secret weapon,” says the evergreen 47-year-old.

The women’s boxing scene has blown up recently. Gone are the days when female boxers got sidelined; today, they’re headlining, turning into celebs, and raking in the big bucks. This popularity surge has welcomed a new breed of boxers, keen to test their mettle against seasoned pros.

“These young talents with 8 or 10 fights are all eager to pit against us veterans,” Clampitt observes, brimming with confidence. “I’m game, and honestly, I feel I’d school most of them.”

She’s also got her radar fixed on Laila Beaudoin, a fellow Canadian. “That would be fireworks!” she exclaims. “It’s rare finding Canadians in our division. Laila’s got style, ambition, but with my track record, I’d feel pretty solid stepping in with her.”

But wait, there’s more. There’s another boxer who’s on Clampitt’s radar, someone who she believes would be a guaranteed barnburner, especially on the east coast.

“Heather Hardy and I share similar journeys,” reflects Clampitt on the 41-year-old featherweight, who recently squared off with Amanda Serrano. “Heather’s resilience? Crazy level! Yet, word is she’s looking for another dance partner.”

Hardy (24-3, 4 KOs), known for her never-say-die attitude from Brooklyn, kept charging against Serrano, one of the fiercest hitters in the division. A throwdown with Clampitt? Pure fireworks.

“Our styles? Pure dynamite! She’s relentless, while I bring the technique. I’d need to be at my peak for that one,” Clampitt speculates.

With a world title in play, things heat up further. Alycia Baumgardner, the reigning super featherweight champ, recently ran into some controversy post her win over Christina Linardatou. The boxing community awaits the final call on her titles.

Clampitt stays optimistic, “Still waiting on the final word. Alycia’s hoping for the best, and honestly, I hope things pan out for her. But if titles come into play, I’m right here.”

For now, Clampitt’s plan is crystal clear: Stay winning, stay ready.
