Golden Boy Promotions has roped in Charles Conwell, a 26-year-old ex-U.S. Olympian and the top dog in the WBC’s super welterweight rankings, with a shiny new contract for multiple fights. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, this lad who’s never tasted defeat in the ring, boasting a record of 18 wins with 13 by knockout, has been lugging around a bunch of regional belts for 15 years, including the fancy IBF USBA and WBC USA titles.

Conwell was all, “Took them long enough!” He’s chuffed to bits and itching to jump back into the fray. He tossed a nod to Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya, and Eric Gomez for rolling out the red carpet. “Bad News is on the prowl again,” he quipped.

Oscar De La Hoya, the big boss man at Golden Boy, was all praises, banging on about Conwell’s knockout punch, his swagger in the ring, and his Olympic chops that apparently set him up nicely to handle any scrap. De La Hoya’s game plan? To throw Conwell into the deep end, lining up fight after fight against tough nuts to crack, all in the name of prepping him for a shot at the world title bling.

Mark Habibi, the brains behind Wise Owl Boxing and Conwell’s manager, can’t contain his excitement about Golden Boy taking Conwell under their wing. He’s buzzing about Conwell being on the brink of snagging a world title fight, something the lad’s been dreaming of since he was a nipper.
