CES Boxing Welcomes Dorchester Prospect Tevin Regis

CES Boxing is making serious noise as 2023 winds down, beefing up its roster with some fresh talent. The latest signing? Tevin “Hitman” Regis, a 28-year-old lightweight firecracker with a record of 1-0, 1 KO, now exclusive to the Providence powerhouse.

CES founder, Jimmy Burchfield, Sr., couldn’t hide his excitement: “Snagging Tevin is a knockout for us. His pro debut? Pure dynamite! The kid’s got the chops, the charm, and the right hook to light up the lightweight scene.”

Regis blasted onto the scene on August 5th, dropping Joshua Zimmerman like a sack of bricks in the first round at Polar Park in Worcester, MA. Burchfield, Sr., perched ringside, was so jazzed by Tevin’s showstopper that he hustled for a sit-down with the Gargaro brothers – Marc and Nico – who shape and steer Regis at Nonantum Boxing Club in Newton, MA.

For Regis, this was more than a win; it was a tribute. “I lost my mom on July 5th, a month before my debut,” he shared. “She dreamt of my victory. When I won, it felt like stepping into her dream. Scoring a 1st round KO and catching CES’s eye? That’s the stuff dreams are made of.”

Regis, a Dorchester native, never eyed the ring growing up. Football was his game, from Pop Warner to Fitchburg State University, and even semi-pro. But at 24, when his mom battled breast cancer, Tevin laced up for a different kind of fight.

“She fought hard against cancer since 2019,” Regis recalls. “Watching her strength inspired me to fight my own battles in the ring.”

Nonantum Boxing Club became his training ground. Under Marc Gargaro, a former US Olympic team coach, Regis soaked up boxing smarts. Just 4 years and 20 amateur fights later, the duo eyed the pros.

“Tevin’s a rapid riser,” remarked Gargaro, now head coach of Team Combat League’s Boston Butchers. “He’s got dynamite in his fists and the finesse to use it. Signing with CES? It’s a masterstroke for his career.”

Regis’s first CES gig? A home turf tussle against East Hartford, CT’s Salvatore Pugliares at Freeport Hall in Dorchester, MA, on January 13th.

“I’m gearing up to be the best version of me,” says Regis of his upcoming bout. “I’ve scoped out Pugliares, but I’m focused on bringing my A-game to my folks at home.”
