Canelo vs Charlo: Mikey Garcia Picks Canelo

Canelo versus Charlo is official. Charlo, known for his impressive all-around skills, hasn’t been in the ring for two years, but he’s expected to lace up his gloves for this headliner. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? But wait, there’s a twist! The fight will likely happen at 168, maybe even in Texas.

When 210BoxingTV asked Mikey Garcia about this fight, he didn’t mince his words. He’s betting on Canelo. Garcia said, “Even though Canelo didn’t look the greatest in his last performance, I think Canelo at 168… I don’t see anybody right now still giving him that kind of trouble, especially not someone moving up in weight class.”

So, does a break from the ring affect a boxer’s performance that much? How is Charlo going to fare with the added pounds? Well, we’ll just have to wait for the bell to ring.

Benavidez’s name popped up during our chat. Could he be the one to challenge Canelo at 168? Garcia doesn’t think so. He said, “Benavidez could, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.” Why? Well, according to Garcia, Benavidez could be seen as too big a threat. Though he agrees Benavidez could give Canelo a run for his money, Garcia is still backing Canelo’s comfort at 168.

Towards the end, Garcia took a moment to appreciate his fans. “I appreciate all the love and support they showed me. I wouldn’t be who I am, I wouldn’t be where I’m at if it wasn’t for them.” Touching, isn’t it?
