Miami middleweight Abel Gonzalez looks to progress quickly as he takes on undefeated 9-0 opposition in his second professional fight this weekend in Puerto Rico.

Gonzalez had a standout amateur career becoming National Golden Gloves Champion at middleweight, and now looks to recreate his success in the pro ranks.

Gonzalez discussed his integration to the pro ranks, “I’m happy with how it’s going and happy to be active, so a big thank you to my father, and my manager Ryan Rickey for putting in the work to get my career rolling.

“I’ve been disciplined, I’m always in the gym, and I’m ready to go through the pro ranks at a good pace, and I know I have the team behind me to make it happen.

“I’m facing a 9-0 opponent in my third pro fight and I’m good with that. I don’t want easy fights, I want game opponents, that’s how I want to develop.”

A victory tomorrow evening sees Gonzalez head into 2023 with a 3-0 record. The Miami man opened up on his hopes for 2023.

He said, “I’d like to win a title in 2023, just a regional belt but I think it’s possible. My team can make that happen. My manager Ryan has got a good record of getting fighters ranked, so I know he’ll do the same for me.

“I have to stay focused, stay winning and it will come together, but like I said, I’m happy to move quickly and a title next year I believe is very doable and puts me in position to take on the best in 2024.”
