Cleveland and Toledo hold special places in Charles Conwell’s heart as his first and second homes, respectively. As he mentioned, these are cities teeming with boxing talent, something that he believes will be showcased at the upcoming event. Conwell speaking to Fight Hype said:
“Yes sir, just here to support my people in my city,” Conwell opened up, exuding the energy of a dedicated athlete and community member.
Ohio’s Talented Boxing Community
“Jared Anderson is obviously going to be putting on for this city,” Conwell remarked.
When asked about Anderson’s upcoming bout against Charles Martin, Conwell confidently predicted a knockout by Anderson within six to eight rounds.
“I believe in Jared Anderson, so I’m going to say before six,” he claimed, “I think for Jared, it’d be better if he broke him down. Show them that he got more in his arsenal and everything he’s working with.”
“That’s the type of knockout person I am too. I ain’t a one punch knockout artist,” he confessed, providing insight into his own fighting style, known for its precision and relentlessness.
As the conversation shifted to his own career, Conwell delved into the complex landscape of boxing politics.
“Like you said, it’s a lot of things that go on in boxing behind the scenes, a lot of politics into boxing,” Conwell admitted.
However, he made it clear that he’s not deterred by these challenges and is patiently waiting for his shot at the title. According to him, it won’t be just one fight that’ll get him there; it will be a series of bouts.
In discussing potential opponents, names like Lubin and Brian Mendoza came up. But Conwell assured that reaching his goal would likely take more than just one significant fight.
“My people reached out today, we’ve seen some things that’s happening behind the scenes,” Conwell hinted cryptically, stirring intrigue about a potential “tournament-type dance.”
“It’s gonna take more than one fight just for me to get to the world title,” he asserted.
This pathway, although long and winding, doesn’t seem to frustrate Conwell. Instead, he sees the challenge as a chance to prove himself.
“No matter what happens, I feel like I’m better than all those guys, so it’s just a matter of time,” he confidently stated.
Upcoming Fights
Conwell was asked about his predictions for the upcoming showdown between Spence and Terence Crawford.
“It’s a good fight but it’s a pick ’em fight. Some people pick Errol Spence, some people just pick Terence Crawford. For me, I’m picking Terence Crawford to win,”
To him, both fighters possess a blend of skill, mindset, and other elements that make them formidable opponents. But in the end, he believes Crawford has the edge.
“I think it’s a little bit of everything. I just think Terence Crawford is an overall better fighter,” he concluded.
As we wrapped up our conversation, Conwell graciously provided his social media handles, inviting fans to join him on his journey.
“You can follow me on all social media platforms at Charles Conwell, just my first and last name,” he encouraged.
