Jaime Munguia will not fight against Dmitry Bivol in the near future, according to his promoter Fernando Beltran. Instead, he is trying to close a fight with Gennady Golovkin for June 10th.

Last week, Eddie Hearn revealed that they were exploring a possible fight between Munguia and Bivol a175 pounds, but Beltran shut down that possibility, even though there were conversations about it.

“We are not thinking of Bivol for June 10th”, Beltran told IZQUIERDAZO. “Jaime has a date with DAZN for June 10th. It was our side who looked for Bivol, but we couldn’t make a deal. Unfortunately, Bivol is not very popular. He has been effective in the ring, but he is not very popular. We would love to fight with him in the future, but we are talking about the two weight classes above (Munguia’s division). We would fight with him (Bivol) if nobody else wants. If someone runs away from him (Bivol), we will face him”.

Instead, Fernando Beltran reveals that they are trying to close a fight with Gennady Golovkin for June 10th.

“We are trying to get a fight with Gennady Golovkin for June 10th”, Beltran said. “We are trying”.

Beltran clarifies that it’s not only wishful thinking, but there are actual discussions for that fight to be made.

“Yes, we have been talking to Tom Loeffler (GGG’s promoter)”, Beltran said. “The truth is that there have been actual discussions, and we want to close it soon. We would love to fight Golovkin. We have looked for that fight since a long time ago, since the beginning of Jaime’s career, and we couldn’t make it. But we are trying again”.

Fernando Beltran revealed that they will have definitive news about Jaime Munguia’s next fight “this week”.
