Makhmudov, powerful in Mexico

Victories by K.-O. by Mehmet Nadir Unal, Angel Perez and Antonio Perez

MONTREAL Friday, July 23, 2021 – Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) presented another exciting Commando boxing gala in Cuernavaca, Mexico. This event presented by La Queen, Mise-o-Jeu and Videotron featured the long-awaited return of Arslanbek Makhmudov against the powerful Czech slugger Pavel Sour. After a training camp in New York with his trainer Marc Ramsay and his training partners Joey Dawejko and Adam Kownacki, Arslanbek was in excellent physical condition for his duel against Sour. The one nicknamed the “Lion” wasted no time and threw himself on his opponent from the first moment of their NABA and NABF championship duel scheduled for 10 rounds. It was after a few good exchanges between the two pugilists that Makhmudov managed to hit the target with the help of a devastating right hand that sent Sour to dreamland. The referee did not even begin the count of 8 before ending the bout. Arslanbek Makhmudov thus signed his twelfth victory among the professional ranks before the limit and this, in as many fights. Makhmudov is therefore continuing his ascent to the highest peaks of his division and could return to action very soon.

“I had a great training camp and I was ready. It’s been 10 months since I got in the ring because there aren’t a lot of boxers who want to face me. I am ready to face anyone. My goal is to become heavyweight champion of the world and I want to face the best in my division,” said Arslanbek Makhmudov during a post-fight interview.

This boxing evening was an expeditious one for all the tigers from Eye of the Tiger Management. Angel Perez was in his second pro fight in less than two months. He faced Carlos Leal Martinez who from the start seemed much smaller than the American but showed a lot of aggression. However, Perez was able to solve the problem that Martinez represented by winning technical knockout in the 2nd round with a right hand square on his opponent’s chin. For his part, Antonio Perez, the twin brother of Angel also signed a victory by K.-O. while he sent his opponent to the floor in the 4th round to end hostilities following a devastating blow to Martin Romero Garcia’s liver. Additionally, Marc Ramsay’s new protégé and ex-Olympian, Mehmet Nadir Unal, put on a stunning performance in his first fight in the pro ranks as he outscored Jorge Luis Hernandez Martinez from the first to the last bell. Several experts compare him to none other than Artur Beterbiev with his very aggressive boxing style and his extraordinary punching force and Unal has proven to fans that he has all the skills to go as far as his Russian compatriot.

“I am very satisfied with Unal’s performance. He boxed powerfully and with control. He was very calm for his professional debut. It was also a good comeback for Arslanbek. We are very happy to have had the chance to keep him active tonight and he should be back in the ring very quickly,” explained Marc Ramsay in a telephone interview following the performances of his protégés.
