Golovkin fighting against Falcao and not Erislandy Lara

Gennady Golovkin will have a mandatory fight and no permission from the WBA to make any optional defense, confirmed Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, president of the organization.

After the fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the Kazakh boxer will have to defend his WBA and IBF middleweight titles.

The presidents of both organizations agree and Golovkin must face Esquiva Falcao, number one in the IBF. “It’s a joint resolution”, said Gilbertico in an interview with IZQUIERDAZO.

“We made numbers and he should go with Falcao”. Golovkin won the IBF title after beating Sergiy Derevyanchenko in October 2019, and the WBA super champion in April against Ryota Murata.

“The double mandatory will be communicated to Golovkin soon”, he added. “First with Falcao and then the winner against Erislandy Lara”.

The presidents of both organizations will send the notification to GGG’s team these days, so that they are aware and begin the negotiations of their next fight.

Mendoza said that this decision will even allow Lara to expose his WBA regular champion title before challenging the winner of Golovkin vs. Falcao. What he also made clear is that, by regulation of the body, there will be no more permits for Gennady.

“There will no longer be licenses from us, and I don’t think there are any from the IBF either”, concluded Gilberto.
