Charlie Parsons spoke to Eddie Hearn for Boxing Social. Hearn opened up on the Sunny Edwards – Jesse Rodriguez fight:
“For me, pound for pound, one of the best fights in boxing is Sunny Edwards against Jesse Rodriguez. Respect to both. It’s a wonderful fight,” he expressed.
Both fighters come with commendable records and unmatched passion for the sport. Hearn revealed that the fight will take place sometime between November and December.
Zuckerberg vs. Musk
The most surprising and slightly outlandish part of the interview was when Hearn spoke about a possible MMA fight between tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. The idea seemed almost too far-fetched to take seriously, but Hearn didn’t dismiss it.
“Do you think I really want to comment or get involved in a fight between Elon Musk and Zuckerberg? The answer is absolutely yes. Sign me up. I’m here to promote it,” he joked.
While the proposition may seem ludicrous to some, it raises a pertinent question: In an era where celebrity boxing matches and crossovers are becoming increasingly common, is the idea of tech tycoons squaring off in a ring really that outlandish?
As Hearn quite amusingly put it, “I’m prepared to sell my soul for this fantastic fight.”
With a host of potential matches on the horizon, Hearn divulged his interests and potential opponents, pointing out the working relationship with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy.
“I think the next step for Munguia is the next step for a lot of 168 pounders. That’s vital right now. I think Munguia needs the right fight next. I think he’s gonna want a big fire, and I think that comes from Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, Edgar Balanga.”
Thomas Hauser, a boxing writer known for his critical views on Anthony Joshua, was present at the venue, prompting Hearn to express his thoughts on Hauser’s articles.
“He’s done a couple of butcher jobs on us. I just thought the article was weird,” he said
Katie Taylor – Chantel Cameron II
The rematch between Katie Taylor and Chantel Cameron has been a hot topic in the boxing world. Hearn suggested that Dublin would be the ideal location for such an event.
“Both girls are on a lot of money for that fight, so we have to make sure we generate the gate to make that happen. That gate gets generated most efficiently and effectively in Dublin,” he explained.
