On May 6, Saúl Canelo Álvarez will defend his Undisputed Super-Middleweight title against John Ryder at the Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico, live on DAZN. This highly anticipated event will be broadcast live around the world on DAZN and DAZN PPV in the U.S & Canada. This marks the first time in over eleven and a half years that Canelo has fought in Mexico, making it a momentous occasion for both the fighter and his fans.
Canelo, with a record of 58-2-2 and 39 KOs, will defend his Undisputed crown for the second time, having beaten Gennadiy Golovkin in their trilogy battle in Las Vegas in September. He ripped the IBF crown from Caleb Plant in Sin City in November 2021 with an 11th round stoppage. The Mexican superstar will make an emotional return to his homeland for his latest Cinco de Mayo showdown, having last fought in Mexico 4180 days ago when he stopped Kermit Cintron in Mexico City to defend his WBO World Light-Middleweight title.

Despite his long absence from Mexico, Canelo has fought for the 35th time in his homeland, including Cinco de Mayo weekend. This year’s Cinco de Mayo weekend will be a spectacular occasion, as the state of Jalisco marks 200 years of independence. The 32-year-old four-weight World Champion is closing in on 18 years as a pro, and this latest fight will be the 63rd of his storied career.
Canelo’s challenger, John Ryder, is the WBO mandatory challenger, with a record of 32-5 and 18 KOs. The popular Londoner will be looking to spoil the party, traveling to Mexico for the biggest fight of his 12-year career. ‘The Gorilla’ landed the WBO interim title in his last fight when Zach Parker retired on his stool after four rounds of their clash in London, England in November. This win followed a career-best victory earlier in 2022 over former Middleweight ruler and old Canelo foe Daniel Jacobs. Ryder has also tackled three other Britons who have taken on the Mexican king, challenging Callum Smith for the Super-Middleweight World crown after fights with Billy Joe Saunders and Rocky Fielding.
It promises to be an exciting showdown, with both fighters looking to prove their worth. Canelo, who is regarded as one of the best boxers in the world, will be fighting on home soil in front of his adoring fans. Ryder, a tough and determined fighter, will be looking to cause an upset and secure his first world title.
In conclusion, the Canelo vs. Ryder fight is set to be one of the biggest sporting events of the year. With Canelo defending his title in Mexico for the first time in over a decade, and Ryder looking to cause an upset, it promises to be an exciting and memorable showdown. Boxing fans around the world will be eagerly tuning in to watch these two fighters battle it out for the Undisputed Super-Middleweight title.
