Ben Shalom speaks to Boxing’s Andi Purewal as he responds to Eddie Hearn & dismisses Bivol-Azeez reports
“At the end of the day, you let someone else spend the money and when he’s ready and he’s had the education, we’ll come in and we’ll take him to the biggest platforms and the big fight” quipped Eddie Hearn, signaling perhaps a future collaboration with Ben Whittaker. Intriguing isn’t it?
Hearn’s comments, dropped nonchalantly amidst talks of signing Ben Whittaker, left more than a few eyebrows raised.
“I don’t think anyone’s in a rush to leave Sky… it’s exciting, it’s flattering and long may it continue,” commented the ever-enthusiastic Ben Shalom. The growth of the boxing stable, a term referring to a group of boxers managed by one person, is undoubtedly a testament to the continued popularity of the sport. But what does this mean for the future?
The Unexpected Twists: Bivol-Azeez and Buatsi-Azeez Debacle
As boxing fans worldwide would agree, nothing compares to the adrenaline rush of an unexpected match announcement. Rumors flew thick and fast about a potential fight between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez. However, a quick investigation revealed the contrary. So, what exactly is going on here?
“He’s not in talks with them… Azeez is with BOXXER and with Sky and I’ve not received anything.” confirmed Shalom.
The confirmed match-up surely has fans on the edge of their seats, yet it raises a question: what led to this mix-up? What can we, as keen observers of the boxing scene, glean from this episode?
Boxing events on the same day, the uncomfortable phenomenon where two boxing events occur simultaneously, are becoming all too frequent. But could there be a solution in sight?
“I’d like to avoid clashing as well… ,” said Shalom.
The Intriguing Case of Smith-Eubank Jr. 2 and Conor Benn
It’s no secret that boxing fans are eagerly awaiting updates on the much-anticipated Smith-Eubank Jr. rematch and the progression of Conor Benn’s career. However, a sense of uncertainty continues to shroud these developments.
“Connor Benn’s got a process to go through with you card and I think once he’s gone through that process then we can talk about who he fights next… I feel uncomfortable talking about that until he’s gone through the process with UKAD,” stated Shalom.
So, what’s next on the agenda for the latter half of 2023? Evidently, Shalom and his team are hard at work.
“We’re gonna try and announce our boxing schedule at once… our fighters are actually getting to the stage where we’ve built in the biggest fights today and it’s a special time for us,” he shared.
