Artur Beterbiev, the current WBC/WBO/IBF light heavyweight champion, has successfully rescheduled his postponed title defense. Originally set to face former world champion Callum Smith on August 19th, Beterbiev’s recent dental surgery led to a delay, and now the two will face off on Saturday, January 13th, at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada.
Top Rank’s chairman, Bob Arum, couldn’t contain his excitement. He remarked, “It’s a few months later than originally planned, but I am thrilled that Artur Beterbiev will have a chance to defend his titles in front of the incredible Quebec City fans.”
Eye of the Tiger’s president, Camille Estephan, also expressed satisfaction at the quick agreement between the camps. Estephan added, “It’s going to heat up this January in Quebec City.”
Looking at the fighters’ records, Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) holds an astonishing 100% knockout ratio. He’s successfully defended his IBF title seven times since November 2017. His latest triumph was an eighth-round TKO against Anthony Yarde. Smith (29-1, 21 KOs), from Liverpool, is the former Ring Magazine and WBA super middleweight world champion. Since his decision defeat to Canelo Alvarez in 2020, Smith has risen to the light heavyweight division, winning two subsequent fights.
