In a recent interview with Fight Hype, Anthony Joshua shared his views on  bout between Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Jermall Charlo.

Joshua praised Canelo, acknowledging his continual  activity in the boxing ring. “We were trying to say Canelo’s not who he once was and all that… people just talk bro… of course, he is, he’s a serious fighter,” Joshua said. This statement clearly illustrates his respect for Canelo, dispelling rumors about the Mexican’s supposed decline.

Joshua also touched on the theme of public opinion and its influence. “That answers your question about people’s opinions… people just got something to say about everyone, about anything.” He underscored that, in his opinion, Canelo is a formidable fighter irrespective of what others may say.

“He’s gone with PBC, I think it’s clear that he wants to fight Charlo.” Joshua suggested that Canelo’s move to Premier Boxing Champions was a clear indication of his desire to face Jermell Charlo.

Joshua gave credit to both fighters, highlighting their distinct strengths. “They’re confident… speed and strength,” he said. But he was quick to note Charlo’s prolonged absence from the ring. “The only thing is with Charlo, he’s been out the ring for a long time, it was two years, three years.”

Despite Charlo’s attributes, Joshua acknowledged the power of an active fighter, something Canelo has been. “Yeah, that’s it, Canelo’s active, busy.” He then defended Canelo against critics who believe his career might be on the downhill. “They’re saying that Canelo’s finished, bro. You’re only finished when you’re done.”

Joshua ended the interview on a reflective note about Canelo’s status, given his shift away from promoting. “I think it’s crazy,” he said. His tone suggested a sense of astonishment at the narratives around Canelo’s career.
